UL Controlled Lab Test — Trane 7.5-Ton RTU
Underwriters Laboratories measured a seven-year-old 7.5-ton Trane packaged rooftop unit under AHRI 340/360-2007 and ASHRAE 37-2009, treated it, ran it 400+ hours, then re-measured it under identical conditions.

Client Objective
Verify the current capacity and efficiency of a seven-year-old packaged rooftop unit against original equipment manufacturer design specifications.
Determine what material changes, if any, occur in that same unit after being treated with EnviroTemp.
Outcome & Benefits
The baseline established that the unit had lost a considerable amount of capacity and efficiency relative to its 90,000 BTU/h OEM design specification — measuring only 64,796 BTU/h.
After treatment and 400+ hours of full-load runtime, the same unit measured 77,060 BTU/h with EER improving from 6.50 to 7.96 while total measured power fell from 9.97 kW to 9.68 kW.
Physical condensate capture independently corroborated the capacity result, rising 24.6% in the same 30-minute collection window.
What was tested, and how
- Equipment
- 2008 Trane 7.5-ton packaged rooftop unit, model TSC090A3EGAZUB
- Age
- 7 years old at time of test (2008 unit, tested 2015)
- Refrigerant
- R-22, 9.80 lb charge (recovered, acid-tested and reinstalled to nameplate)
- Initial condition
- Considerable degraded capacity and efficiency loss versus OEM design specification: 64,796 BTU/h measured against 90,000 BTU/h design, EER 6.50 against 10.3 design.
- Treatment
- 8 oz of EnviroTemp — matched to nominal design tonnage — injected into the evaporator section while the unit ran under load.
- Runtime before final measurement
- 400+ hours at full load in a holding chamber before the post-treatment measurement.
- Testing conditions
- AHRI 340/360-2007 100% “A” test in an AHRI-certified dual psychrometric chamber: 95 °F DB / 75 °F WB outdoor, 80 °F DB / 67 °F WB entering evaporator air, 400 CFM per ton at design static pressure. Three 10-minute collection segments averaged, utility-grade power meters, NIST-certified hot-wire anemometer airflow verification per ASHRAE 37-2009 §7.7.

Controlled laboratory testing demonstrated measurable improvements in the tested system.
Results vary based on equipment condition, design, age, maintenance and operating conditions.
These are the measured results of one specific unit under one standardised protocol — not a guaranteed outcome for other equipment.
